What are the different options for leather material

What types of leather do you use?
We use full grain and top grain genuine cowhide leather. These are the most durable and premium cuts of leather, ideal for long-lasting artisan products.

What is full grain leather?
Full grain is the highest quality leather, taken from the outermost layer of the hide with the natural texture intact. It shows natural marks and ages beautifully with use.

What is top grain leather?
Top grain leather is also from the top layer but lightly sanded for a smoother, more uniform finish. It’s still strong and perfect for refined products.

What is corrected grain leather?
Corrected grain leather has the surface buffed to remove imperfections, then stamped with an artificial grain. It’s more affordable but less durable than top or full grain.

What is PU leather?
PU (polyurethane) leather is synthetic — made by coating split leather or fabric with plastic. We do not use PU leather in our core artisan range.

What is vegetable-tanned leather?
Vegetable-tanned leather uses plant-based tannins. It’s firm, natural, eco-friendly, and develops a unique patina with age. Ideal for belts and bags.

What is chrome-tanned leather?
Chrome tanning uses chemicals (mainly chromium salts) for a faster, softer finish. It’s more flexible and water-resistant, used for some soft goods.

What is semi veg-tan leather?
Semi veg-tan leather is a hybrid — tanned partly with plant tannins and partly with chrome. It combines structure and softness, ideal for versatile products.

How can I care for my leather products

To keep your Perez Leather items looking their best for years:

  • Keep dry: Avoid soaking. If wet, pat dry gently and let it air-dry naturally.

  • Condition occasionally: Use a leather conditioner every few months to keep the leather supple and prevent cracking.

  • Store with care: Keep in a cool, dry place. Use a dust bag or wrap in cotton if stored long-term.

  • Avoid harsh chemicals: Do not use alcohol, turpentine, or cleaning sprays.

  • Let it age: Natural marks and patina will develop — this is part of its unique charm.

With minimal care, your leather piece will age gracefully and last a lifetime.
